The Foundation “Partnership for Road Safety” and “EASST Hosted the Road Safety Panel of the EBRD Annual Meeting

On May 15, the foundation “Partnership for Road Safety” and the European Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Transport (EASST) hosted the road safety panel at the annual meeting of the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The main topic was the “Effective Local Stakeholder Partnerships to Improve Road Safety”.

The moderator of the panel was Dmitry Sambuk (EASST), and the panelists were the representatives of the organization of EASST partner countries. Among them was Gela Kvashilava, the founder of the foundation “Partnership for Road Safety”, as the foundation is the partner organization of EASST in Georgia. During the meeting, the participants talked about the successful road safety cases in Georgia, but foreign guests and transport experts noted the defects that exist in the current Law of Traffic Safety of Georgia and road safety culture. They mentioned that by changing the road behavior of all the road users, it would be possible to decrease the number of road accidents on the Georgian roads.

The road safety panel was attended by the Deputy of Tbilisi Mayor, the representatives of the government, non-government, business sector and media. The annual meetings of the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) are held in the different countries. In 2015, Georgia is the host country of the EBRD sessions.
