Meeting between the Representatives of the Parliament of Georgia and NGOs
On the 28th of March, the working meeting between the representatives of
the Parliament of Georgia and the non-governmental organizations was held at
the hotel "Courtyard Marriott". The meeting was attended by the representatives
of fifteen non-governmental organizations and the deputy and specialties of the
committees of the Parliament of Georgia. The director of the foundation "Partnership for Road Safety" Irakli Izoria and the project coordinator Lika
Merabishvili were invited to the working meeting.
The
representatives of the foundation "Partnership for Road Safety" talked about
the road safety of the children under the age of 12, importance of children’s
car restraints and prohibition for children to occupy the front seat in a car. The
foundation actively worked on the children’s road safety, in particular to work
out the legislative changes about forbidding children to sit in the front seat and
use a child restraint seat. The work completed with the legislative changes in
the traffic law. From the 1st of March, 2014, it is forbidden for
children under 12 to sit in the front seat; and it is fined with 40 GEL.
The
working meeting was organized by the Westminster Foundation for Democracy and
the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association. The meeting was held within the
program "Develop the Dialogue on the Public Policy between Non-Governmental
Sector and Parliament of Georgia". The
program is prepared by the Westminster Foundation for Democracy with the
financial support of European Union.
