Global Road Safety Week in 2013

Due to the increasing fatalities and injuries of pedestrians and children, Georgian foundation “Partnership for  Road  Safety” joined  the Global Second Road Safety Week. PfRS started the preparation for the campaign in April- May, 2013. PfRS organized the Long Short Walk campaign in four cities (Tbilisi, Batumi, Telavi, Rustavi) and three municipalities (Mukhrani, Ninotsminda and Lagodekhi) of Georgia. The walks were processing in the central streets and urban areas. The message of the campaign was “Our Goal is Safe Roads for All”, and the participants  were wearing the special T-Shirts with  the slogans “I am a pedestrian…”, “I am walking for…” They called the drivers, local authorities, and traffic police to pay more attention to the rights and safety of pedestrians and children on the roads. Moreover, the walk participants called local authorities to recognize the pedestrian safety as an urgent issue and demanded to install more safe footpaths, crossing points, speed cameras, rumble strips, overpasses and underpasses, refuge islands and speed bumps, especially nearby schools. The program was conducted within the UN Second Global Week.
