National Sustainable Urban Transport Policy workshop

On February 28, the project “Green Cities: Integrated Sustainable Transport for the City of Batumi and the Adjara Region” was presented at Radisson Blu Iveria Hotel, Tbilisi. The meeting was attended by Gigla Agulashvili (Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia), Irakli Lekvinadze (Deputy Mayor of Tbilisi), Niels Scott (UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative), international and local non-governmental organization representatives, media and interested people.

The meeting was divided into two sessions. The main speakers of the meeting were Gigla Agualshvili (Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia), Niels Scott (UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative), Lasha Nakashidze (Green Cities: ISTBAR project manager), Tonny Bosch (MOVE Mobility), Gela Kvashilava (Partnership for Road Safety, Chairman), and Irakli Samkharadze (Senior National Adviser).

The project “Green Cities: Integrated Sustainable Transport for the City of Batumi and the Adjara Region” will be implemented in the City of Batumi and the Adjara Region, which includes:

  1.        I.            development of integrated sustainable urban transport plans for the City of Batumi and other municipalities of Ajara region;
  2.     II.            development of specific feasibility studies and functional plans for low carbon transport in Batumi;
  3.  III.            support to direct investments in sustainable urban transport pilot measures in Batumi based on the feasibility studies; and
informing national policies on sustainable urban transport and green urban development.
