Children 's Road Safety
During 2012-2014, the foundation “Partnership for Road Safety” participated in the program “Develop the Dialogue on the Public Policy between Non-Governmental Sector and Parliament of Georgia”. Within the program, several seminars, research, advocacy and communication were conducted. The main goal of the “Partnership for Road Safety” was to take care for children‟s road safety; the representatives of the foundation worked on the road safety of the children under the age of 12, importance of children‟s car restraints and prohibition for children to occupy the front seat in a car. The staff of the foundation conducted the research themselves. The research revealed that 59.6% of children in Georgia are seated if the front seat of a car and 15% among them do not use the seatbelt. At that, in the regions more than 70% of children take front seats and even a higher number of them does not use seatbelts either. The foundation actively worked on the children‟s road safety, we have sent our recommendation to the Parliament of Georgia; and before law adoption the communication between Parliament and our organization was done. Finally, the work completed with the legislative changes in the traffic law. From March 1, 2014, it is forbidden for children under
12 to sit in the front seat; and it is fined with 40 GEL.The program as prepared by the Westminster Foundation for Democracy with the support of European Union and Georgian Young Lawyers‟ Association.
