PfRS and CENN organized the International Auto Fuel Economy Conference in Tbilisi

On the 27th and 28th of May, the foundation "Partnership for Road Safety" (PfRS) and the Caucasus Environmental NGO Network (CENN) organized the International Fuel Economy Conference in Tbilisi. International fuel economy experts, representatives from governmental structures from Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan and stakeholders came together to discuss the way forward for improving fuel economy and reducing CO2 emissions from the transport sector in the South Caucasus region.
The conference was organized within the scope of an initiative instigated by the Global Fuel Economy Initiative (GFEI) in partnership with the PfRS and CENN, and with the support of UNEP.
The GFEI exists to promote debate and discussion around the issue of fuel economy and has launched a campaign, the 50by50 campaign, which aims to halve the global amount of CO2 emissions from cars by 2050. Within the framework of the initiative, a number of activities have already been implemented, including the development of projections for the future of Georgia’s fuel economy with the help of the International Energy Agency. One of the outcomes of the initiative will be the development of a National Fuel Economy Action Plan for Georgia, to be submitted to the Government of Georgia for approval. The recommendations and suggestions from all parties during the conference will play a key role in the development of this Action Plan.
