Director of the Foundation on the threats created from the brake pads containing the asbestos

Irakli Izoria, the director of the
"Partnership for Road Safety", was the guest of the program on Radio
Imedi with Giorgi Gardavaa, an expert in asbestos impact and liquidation of its
consequences. Irakli Izoria noted that the problem related to asbestos was
first reported within the parliamentary committee inquiry. The research, which
was conducted by “Partnership for Road Safety” has shown that there is no label
on the content of the brake pads, and brake pads containing the asbestos are cheaper,
which tend to increase the braking distance, which in turn is a hazard to the road
safety, and most important issue related to asbestos brake pads is air pollution,
which inevitably causes damage to health and environment. Legislation envisages
prohibiting certain types of asbestos, although the enforcement process is not
effective. His recommendation is to prioritize the problem, conduct researches,
improve the legislation and raise the awareness of population.
